*** How is it done? The methodology ***

  • The prophet (pbuh) said:


  • “Whoever of you sees wrong being committed,
  • let him rectify it with his hand,
  • if he is unable, then with his tongue,
  • and if he is unable, then with his heart,
  • and this is the weakest of faith”

*Qualities to enjoin the good and forbid the evil*

  • The Prophet (pbuh) said: ‘’Allah says’’:


  • “I am the partner least in need of any partner.
  • Whenever someone does an act,
  • partly for me and partly for an imagined partner,
  • I am completely free of that action,
  • and it is wholly for the partner which was
  • associated with me.”
  • (Muslim)

  • “Say: This is my path,
  • I do call to Allah upon clear knowledge”.
    (12:108)
  • 'Umar ibn Abdul-Aziz used to say:
  • “Whoever worships Allah without knowledge corrupts more than he benefits”.

  • “Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and fair preaching,
  • and argue with them in a way that is better…”

  • ---> Patience and compassion:
  • ‘’And enjoin all that is right, and forbid all that is wrong, and be patient in the face of that which afflicts you, verily, that is the most upright of positions.’’
  • (31:17)


  • The Prophet (pbup) said:


  • “O, Aisha: Verily Allah is Compassionate, and He loves compassion. He gives based on compassion that which is not given based on force, and is not given based on any other cause”.

  • ---> Forbearance and Gentleness
  • As Allah said to His Messenger (pbuh):
    “And by the Mercy of Allah you were able to deal gently with them. If you had been severe and harsh-hearted, they would have broken away from you.”
  • (3:159)

    Also  he said:
  • “Indeed gentleness does not enter into
  • anything except it beautifies it,
  • nor is it removed from anything except
  • that it makes it ugly.”

  • Allah says in the interpretation of the meaning:
  • O you who believe!
  • Why do you say that which you do not do.
  • It is a most hateful thing to Allah that you say that which you do not do.
    (61:2-3)


  • The prophet Muhammad pbuh said:


  • "A man will be brought on the day of resurrection and will be cast into Hell, and his intestines will pour forth and he will go round them as and ass goes round its millstone. The inmates of Hell will gather round him and say:
  • ‘what has happened to you, O so-and-so? Were you not enjoining us to do good and forbidding us to do evil?
  • He will reply:
  • 'I was enjoining you to good, but was not doing it myself;
  • and I was forbidding you to do evil,
  • but was doing it myself."

  • “O, you who believe,
  • what is wrong with you such that when you are
  • called to come forth in the path of Allah,
  • you become heavy, stuck to the earth?
  • Are you contented with the life of this world in preference to the hereafter?
  • Verily, the provisions of this life are but little in relation to the hereafter’’.
  • (9:38)

  • “And whatever calamity befalls you it is according to that which your own hands have earned, and Allah forgives much”
  • (42:30)

  • “Whatever good comes to you is from Allah,
  • and whatever evil comes to you is from yourself”
  • (4:79)

  • “Those among the Children of Israel who
  • disbelieved were cursed by the tongue of Dawud and ’Isa son of Maryam, that was because they disobeyed
  • (Allah and the Messengers)
  • and were ever transgressing beyond bounds.
  • They used not to forbid one another from Al-Munkar (evil-doing) which they commited. Vile indeed was that they used to do”
  • (5:79)


  • Also the prophet (pbuh) said:


  • “There is no people in whose in the middle of acts of disobedience custom its and they can change this but don’t do that, or Allah visits them with a hitting strong”
  • (Abu Dawud, Ibn Maajah)

  • “He allows them as lawful what is good and forbids and prohibits them from what is bad/evil”
